Kari Prager & Doc Wong Announce February GS Dirt Riding ClinicFebruary 2009 NOTICE: Rain out date for Part B - Dirt riding portion of the clinic- is March 29th. The Friday Feb 13th, talk and demonstration is still on as planned, see you tonight. Back by popular demand! Another GS Dirt Riding Clinic on Friday, February 13th & Sunday, February 15th, the third of our DualSport Series, presented by Kari Prager and Doc Wong.We have teamed up with a number of experienced dirt riders to create a special dirt clinic for riders of bigger dualsport bikes and also for any other novice dirt riders. We will have more instructors than at past clinics, and more opportunity for one-on-one instruction or critiques.
Doc Wong purchased his new R1200GS last year, which he is riding in the dirt now. The clinic will be geared towards the larger dualsport bikes from R1100, R1150 or R1200 GS's to F650's, the larger KTM Adventure bikes, as well as KLR 650's, DR 650's and similar medium weight dualsport bikes. If you are a complete newbie or a vertically challenged rider, come on as small a bike as you like. Bike size is not considered a prerequisite to attend the class. The dirt drills we will practice are designed to accommodate the novice dirt rider. If you're more of an intermediate or advanced dirt rider we'd appreciate any help you'd like to give in doing demonstrations, leading a trail riding group after lunch, or any other function that requires a higher level of technical skill or knowledge of the trails at Hollister SVRA. By the end of the clinic, you will feel comfortable on a beginner/intermediate trail, a fire road, a logging road, or family dualsport events in the Sierras. This clinic is held on two separate days. Please note: Friday evening's Seminar is a prerequisite to Sunday's drills and ride, and all sign-ups, releases and checks will be collected on Friday night. There is no limit to the number of people who can attend the Friday night classroom clinic, but an RSVP would be welcome so we know how many chairs to rent and how much food to provide. Cost: $20 donation to the Clear Creek Legal Defense Fund. All the money goes to this cause. (We're trying to get Clear Creek reopened for off-road use.) >> Part A: Friday evening February 13th, starting at 7:15 PM there will be a 2 hour Seminar at: California BMW/Triumph in Mountain View Attendance at the lecture is essential and required for you to attend Sunday's drills and ride. We'll be going over vital information and demonstrations of the drills. Of course you'll be doing the drills at your own level on Sunday. Topics covered range from cornering to balance, sliding, braking and doing wheelies on your bike. >> Part B: Sunday 9 AM to 3 PM will be the clinic at Hollister Hills State Vehicular Recreation Area-(SVRA) where those drills covered on Friday night will be practiced until lunch. After lunch we will break up into groups based on skill level and ride some of the wider, easier trails of Hollister Hills SVRA. Kari Prager of Cal BMW/Triumph will be leading the group of larger dual-sport bikes. More experienced ride leader and sweep volunteers are needed, so let us know if you'd be willing to lead or sweep a group in the afternoon. TO REGISTER: E-mail Doc ASAP at: Docwong@docwong.com (The Sunday Clinic is limited to the first 40 riders, so if you register and can't make it, please let me know ASAP as there will be a waiting list) and please cc Kari@CALmoto.com so we can have an appropriate number of chairs and refreshments at the lecture evening. Anyone is welcome to come to the evening "Dirt Riding Workshop-Talks and Demonstrations" part of the clinic. This is not limited in numbers, however the practical "Dirt Ride Drills and Dirt Ride" part of the clinic is limited to 40 riders on a first come-first served basis. We will not hold the riding clinic if it is wet and muddy. The big bikes do not do well under those conditions, so we will announce a rain date according to the weather. WHAT TO BRING TO THE DIRT CLINIC
Trail Ride: We gear the trail rides to different levels of ability. The trails are mostly one-way so that once you commit you are really committed to finishing the ride. I have not once had a person find the ride too difficult to complete. I generally start with beginner trails and then work up to the easy intermediate trails, and make a circuit all the way around the entire dirt riding park. This ride takes about an hour or so, and you will be quite tired when it is over. We do a very easy warm-up loop beforehand, and have a very "whoop"-y easy trail to finish up the day if you still have any energy left. I do all three, so it's up to you how much riding you do. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me or Doc. My phone is (650)966-1183 x3, but e-mail is a more reliable way to reach me. Thanks, and I hope to see you there!
